I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from University of the Arts in Philadelphia and am a certified Elementary Teacher for kindergarten through grade 6 in the state of Pennsylvania. Fulfilling my urge to travel and photograph, I moved from the United States to South Korea where I taught ESL from kindergarten to adults in South Korea. I gained experience as an Early Years Teacher in an American international school, Learning Support Teacher in a British international school and a Kindergarten Teacher in a Saudi bi-lingual school. I also taught Grade 2 in Albania and am currently in my 7th year as a Visual Arts Teacher in Qatar. I have taught for 5 years as a PYP Art teacher and am in my 2nd year as an Early Years and Grade 1 Art teacher at an American School.
I am passionate about creativity and teaching and especially love allowing students to discover their own creativity. I facilitate learning experiences that teach skills, process and use of materials while allowing individual freedom for creativity. These experiences are inspired by traditional and contemporary artists both local and international. As a PYP Art Teacher, each learning experience was integrated with the Units of Inquiry while implementing the Arts Scope and Sequence and Transdisciplinary Skills. In my second year at an American school in Qatar, I will be implementing a TAB classroom for KG and Grade 1 and a Reggio Emilia approach for Early Years.
My passion is also continuing my own art education so that I can deliver more meaningful learning experiences in the art room while strengthening my own skills and creativity for personal art. Doha has given me opportunities to engage in the arts through classes and lectures including Islamic Geometric Patterns, Arabic Calligraphy and Art History -traditional and contemporary artists from the region. I attend museum workshops offered to teachers regularly and it has inspired my classroom.
